Primark and Sports direct named for underpaying staff
Primark and Sports Direct have had to pay thousands back to staff for paying them below minimum wage. Primark had to repay £231,973.12 mainly due to charging staff for uniforms, and Sports Direct and the two agencies it used had to pay back a total of £1.1M to their workers. All firms said issues have been rectified.

The spokesperson for Primark said that they had reviewed its procedures to avoid the situation from reoccurring. It is said that the average amount paid to the 10,000 staff was £23.75.
The minimum wage according to age should be;
£7.50-national living wage for over 25s
£7.05-for 21-24 years old.
£5.60-for 18-20 years old.
£4.05-for 16-17 years old.
According to sources the most common reasons for underpaid staff is; failing to pay staff for travel, overtime and deducting money for uniforms.
This brings awareness to the fact that some of us may be being unfairly underpaid as businesses are trying to make as much a profit as possible. It unfortunate that even businesses that are usually successful are still underpaying their staff whilst not giving them benefits of any kind. Hopefully, as time goes by this situation is 100% rectified and gradually ceases. This can also be linked to issues of exploitation of workers/employees.
